Former Arlandria Resident Arrested for Allegedly Filming Sexual Assaults

Joseph M. Rivera is facing a slew of charges following his arrest in Las Vegas.

A former Arlandria resident is facing multiple sexual offense charges for allegedly filming videos depicting sexual assaults on women who were unconscious, according to The Washington Post.

Joseph M. Rivera, who used to live on Four Mile Road near Alexandria’s border with Arlington County, was arrested in Las Vegas following a joint investigation by the Fairfax County and Alexandria police based on a report filed in May by one of the women’s families.

According to The Washington Post report, some of the videos were taped in a home on Station House Court in Lorton where Rivera sometimes resided. The videos were created between November 2011 and December 2012 and produced and stored on electric devices.

All of the victims were unconscious and were unaware of the videos and photographs, a detective wrote in a search warrant filed in May in Fairfax County. It is unclear how the women became unconscious prior to the assaults and it’s clear that no other people were involved in the sexual assaults or filming, according to the report.

Rivera, 34, worked as a disk jockey and hosted bartending competitions across the region, according to The Post. Authorities did not specify how Rivera encountered the women he allegedly assaulted.

He told police he had taken photographs and videos of the women during an interview conducted after the search warrant was served on his home, according to The Post.

Rivera is being held in Las Vegas pending extradition to Fairfax County, according to The Post. He has been charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery and animate sexual object penetration and two counts of unlawful filming, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the cases is urged to call the Fairfax County Police Department at 703-246-7830.
