Slaters Market Celebrating Its First Year in Business

Market offering a slate of free tastings and deals on Saturday.

Slaters Market is celebrating its one-year anniversary Saturday, Dec. 21 with a series of free tastings throughout the day.

The market, located at 1552 Potomac Greens Dr., offers made-to-order sandwiches, beer, wine, ice cream, Kingsbury chocolates, fresh organic milk, cheeses, fresh baked bread, eggs and other groceries.

Owner Susan Gonzalez said the market has steadily evolved over its first year, picking up new items and selections along the way.

The market started offering ice cream in April and added a deli counter and opened for breakfast just this fall.

“We’ve been surprised we’ve gotten a lot of business from the other local business and offices,” Gonzalez said. “Slowly the neighborhood has caught on by word of mouth. … We now have a following of children who stop by after school and get a piece of candy. We’ve also gotten to know the names of our regulars.”

Manager Nicki Martinez said there’s often a line for lunchtime sandwiches by 1:30 p.m. on weekdays. The Italian turkey is the market’s best-seller, and it will be available at half-off its regular price all day Saturday.

Slaters Market has also built a steady following through its free wine tastings every Friday night. There’s even a wine club for new selections and deals.

Everything in the market will be available at 10 percent off beginning 5 p.m. Friday.
The tasting schedule on Saturday is as follows:

  • Noon-2 p.m. — Tricking Springs Creamery Organic milk, chocolate milk and eggnog
  • 2 p.m.-4 p.m. — Beers and hard cider
  • 2 p.m.-5 p.m. — Red, white and bubbly
  • 4 p.m.-7 p.m. — More red, white and bubbly
