ReplyBlane I agree. I find it offensive and irresponsible! What do expect from a "tax and spend" city govt with no sense of fiscal responsibility. More disturbing is the lack of investigative journalism that downplays these maximum increases to taxes every year and goes along with status quo with little to no improvement in our schools, crime rates, and public services. People like Gail don't get it. You can spin it anyway you want, this is more money out my family's already tight budget that is not a "wash" for my wife and children.

ReplyGreat job? What was the city councils response to the concerned resident about crime in the area two years before??? What is city's response to compliants of criminal activity now in certain areas?? Do we have to wait until a burglary or robbery escalates into murder?? I hope the police are as vigilant as they were about the 10yr old with the plastic orange tip gun!!! Maybe they'll share a cell together?

ReplySorry Matt, Brent, and LMB,
Old Town Grocery is a "historical" building that must be saved in the interest of preserving a history of criminal activity in the area.

ReplyThe USPS does get some taxpayer support.Around $96 million is budgeted annually by Congress for the "Postal Service Fund." These funds are used to compensate USPS for postage free govt mailings.
But what has really contributed to the decline of one of America's oldest institutions is not just its failure to respond to market place competition but its paralyzing contractual agreements with--you guessed it-- labor unions. Labor costs represent 80% of USPS expenses (as opposed to UPS' 53% and FedEx 32 %) . That includes no layoff clause!

ReplyWWII school house is not historic in my opinion- however it probably can be moved.
Comparison to a civil war statue representing American lives lost in the most costly and significant conflict in this nations history that sits in the middle of an intersection is ridiculous.
