ReplyI'm not surprised the Democrats are using the talking points; in this case they're on point.
The problem is that Dems have been bashing Cuccinelli (rightly, IMHO) for months BUT have not been able to point to a positive. No good ideas. No workable plans. No "we'll do X".
If *they* can't find a positive message, how do they expect the voters to do it?

A 36-year-old who lists five degrees and six professions in his bio. I am more libertarian than most, and just can't see a boatload of qualification there.
So, elect a misogynistic bigot, a slimy outsider, or an unqualified job-hopper.
Ouch. No matter what, Virginia suffers for the next four years.

Yes, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
LIFE - Unless you're a woman who doesn't believe life begins at conception, or that you have the right to make choices for yourself.
LIBERTY - unless you want to defend yourself. Or be free to make medical choices. Or to investigate environmental science and make an educated guess.
PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS - unless you're gay, and want to pursue married life with your chosen partner.Maybe he should call it the "UNLESS" campaign..

Carol, of course we *could* do both. The question is whether it is sensible. Will a reduction actually PREVENT anything? I seem to see a consensus here that people wish for fewer drunk-driving deaths, but recognize the government CAN'T do it with legislation.

ReplyKen and his supporters claim to support "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
What I've seen is that this covers his worldview, AS LONG AS:
- he decides when life starts
- he determines what comprises "liberty"
- and he determines that "happiness" is defined by his view of marriage.Gods forbid that a medical doctor and a pregnant woman determine "life", that someone defines "liberty" as being able to make one's own choices that don't harm others, or that a man may pursue happiness by a legally sanctioned marriage to the person he loves.

Laws don't *prevent* much of anything.
What they do is provide a framework for punishment *after the fact*.
In Virginia, since apparently it's also "justified" to stop everyone, absent any probable cause, using "I bet we find some if we search everybody" mentality, it's even worse. It punishes all.

Unfortunately, it's very likely defeating Cuccinelli means electing McAuliffe. (Who, by the way, said (paraphrasing) "I'll run. I'd run for anything. I'd run for pope if I could."
The IG might get enough signatures for a candidate, but not enough votes, and the Libertarians are running a 36-year-old who apparently can't hold a job (Sarvis).
Virginians will lose come November, no matter what the outcome.

ReplyGreat speech.
I still won't vote for him. I find him arrogant, pompous, misogynistic, narrow-minded, and bigoted.

How can you tell? I've not seen a thing about McAuliffe's vision for Virginia except the platitude line "jobs and economic growth." How? What will he pursue to make that happen?
I think a Democrat in the governor's mansion, with a strong Republican House and an evenly split Senate shoudl be a PERFECT governance model. I just can't see actually electing a Democrat who's platform is "I'm not Ken Cuccinelli."
