New market schedules first wine tasting.
Slaters Market, located at 1561 Potomac Greens Dr., will open its doors at 10 a.m. Friday. Located just off Slaters Lane between Buzz Bakery and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the market carries fresh produce, dairy products and other items. The market will host its first wine tasting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. The storefront previously housed Hairy Situations, which moved across the street in September. Along with produce and dairy products, the 800-square-foot Slaters Market will carry beverages, bread, flowers and other household items. Ownership has been posting updates on the market’s Facebook page.

New market moving into storefront next to Buzz Bakery.
A new market located just off Slaters Lane carrying fresh produce, dairy products and other sundry items is expected to open in December. Called Slaters Market, ownership hopes to get the doors open at 1561 Potomac Greens Ave. between Buzz Bakery and Tropical Smoothie Cafe in a little more than a month, according to the market’s Facebook page. The storefront previously housed Hairy Situations, which moved across the street in September. Along with produce and dairy products, the 800-square-foot Slaters Market will carry beverages, bread, flowers and other household items. Nearby residents are urged to leave suggestions on items that the store will carry on its Facebook page.

Dog grooming spot moving next to Periwinkle.
Hairy Situations is moving, but not very far. The dog grooming salon is jumping across Potomac Greens Avenue to the vacant commercial space next to Periwinkle most recently occupied by CycleStudio. Signs posted at the vacant storefront say Hairy Situations will open its new, bigger location on Sept. 3. “It has been both a surprise and a blessing that Hairy Situations has grown so big so fast,” owner Rachel Winstead wrote in a message on the Hairy Situations website. “We would like to thank all of our clients for their loyalty and support! We look forward to getting all of you in sooner and more regularly.” CycleStudio, a fitness studio specializing in spinning and yoga, abruptly suspended operations in May. Slaters Lane is in the process of reopening.
Update: The gas leak at 817 Slaters Lane has been stopped, and Slaters Lane is expected to reopen in approximately 10 minutes. Westbound Slaters Lane will be opened with one lane only until the gas company completes repairs. — — — — Slaters Lane is currently closed between Route 1 and the George Washington Parkway, due to an investigation of a gas leak at 817 Slaters Lane. Buildings from 821-827 Slaters Lane have been evacuated and temporarily closed until the situation is resolved. Slaters Lane is expected to remain closed for at least one hour, or more. Residents of Potomac Greens are unable to exit the neighborhood until further notice. Calls to Buzz Bakery, located at 901 Slaters Lane, were not returned.
