SoberRide Offers Free Lifts Through New Year's Day

Washington Regional Alcohol Program initiative offers rides to anyone over 21 in the greater DC area through New Year's Day.

While grandma may have gotten run over by a reindeer and lived to see another day, you might not be as lucky.  The Washington Regional Alcohol Program, or WRAP, in partnership with AT&T, is once again offering SoberRide, an initiative that offers free taxi rides with a cost of up to $30 to anyone over 21 in the greater Washington, DC area. The rides are offered nightly from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. starting Friday through New Year’s Day. AT&T customers can call #WRAP to get a safe, free ride home, while others can dial 800-200-8294 (TAXI). A Show of Hands Hosting 'Ladies Night Out' on Friday

A Show of Hands on Mount Vernon Avenue is hosting a “Ladies Night Out” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with a focus on helping customers knock off their holiday shopping with a heavy dose of fun. Hundreds gather in the farmers market lot to celebrate the season and remember Nancy Dunning.

The Del Ray Business Association officially kicked off the holiday season on Friday evening with the annual neighborhood tree lighting and luminarias. Hundreds gathered in the farmers market lot at the corner of Mount Vernon and E. Oxford avenues to celebrate the season and await Santa's arrival. Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, a Del Ray resident, was on hand along with council members Paul Smedberg and Del Pepper.
