Dusting of Snow Likely in Alexandria by Friday Morning

A very small amount of snow may accumulate Thursday night and Friday morning across Alexandria.

Weather forecasters are predicting snow will start falling after midnight with accumulations up to an inch possible across Alexandria, according to the National Weather Service—a huge change from Wednesday, when the high temperature at Dulles International Airport was 72 degrees. Thursday night’s low temperature will be around 31 degrees, and high temperatures Friday will not be higher than 35 degrees. Because this snow is driven by a “clipper” system, it is very unlikely our area will get more than a dusting. Still, the Virginia Department of Transportation plans to treat highways and state roads in the region tonight. Alexandria city crews are also prepared to take care of city roads. Schools Opening 2 Hours Late Due to Snow

Alexandria City Public Schools are on a two-hour delay; federal employees may opt for unscheduled telework or leave.

Alexandria City Public Schools are operating on a two-hour delay this morning due to snow that fell overnight. Several Alexandria-area private schools follow the Fairfax County Public Schools schedule for inclement weather. FCPS is also opening on a two-hour delay this morning. Federal employees have the option for unscheduled telework or unscheduled leave today. Snow showers began after midnight Thursday and continued on and off throughout the night. The sun is expected to peek out by 10 a.m. with temperatures rising to 29 this afternoon. Winds will come from the northwest, bringing the wind chill down into the teens all day.
