Officer Laboy Honored with Moment of Silence

A moment of silence was held before the St. Patrick's Day Parade honoring Alexandria Officer Peter Laboy who was shot last week in Old Town Alexandria. His wife has set up a website with information about the situation.

Alexandria's Police Motorcycle Unit traditionally leads the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and this year injured Officer Peter Laboy was honored with a moment of silence before the parade began. An Alexandria Yellow Cab driver allegedly shot Laboy Wednesday right outside of Old Town's Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy. Several police officers at the parade told Patch that Laboy remains in critical condition, but they are optimistic for his recovery. Laboy's wife, Suzanne, has set up a Caring Bridge website to make donations to the Caring Bridge organization and read her comments about her husband's progress. The website is titled "Superman." Road Closures During Alexandria's St. Patrick's Parade

Expect road closures and detours from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Old Town Alexandria.

Washington Street will be closed at King Street for the 32nd annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Old Town Alexandria on Saturday.  Traffic will be detoured at Duke Street and Princess Street. King Street also will be closed from Alfred Street to Lee Street. Motorists are advised to use Route 1 as an alternative. The parade itself starts at 12:30 p.m. See a map of the parade route here. Use alternate routes from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festivities start with a classic car show at 10 a.m., and the Fun Dog Show at Market Square at 10:30 a.m. Saturday’s weather is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of 44 degrees and a very slight chance of rain.

Fun Dog Show in Market Square Kicks Off St. Patrick's Day Parade

Dr. Katy will host the March 2 event. The "Most Irish Looking Dog" is just one of the categories in the St. Patrick's Day Parade Fun Dog Show.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Old Town kicks off with the Fun Dog Show competition benefitting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. Katy Nelson, who hosts television show “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy,” will act as master of ceremonies and judge. The March 2 competition features categories such as “Dog with the Waggiest Tail” and “Dog/Owner Look-Alike” as well as “Most Irish Looking Dog.” After the 10:30 a.m. dog show in Market Square, the pups will lead the St. Patrick’s Day parade along King Street.
