Bryan Porter kicked off his campaign for Commonwealth’s Attorney on Saturday at Pork Barrel BBQ in Del Ray, receiving the endorsement of the current jobholder Randy Sengel and the support of seemingly every Democrat in Alexandria. “Bryan is an excellent trial attorney,” Sengel said. “I’m confident in his ability to lead the office. … He understands first-hand how law enforcement is never a black-and-white issue.” Sengel, first elected as Commonwealth’s Attorney in 1997, announced in December he would not seek re-election at the end of his current term. Randy Sengel says he will not seek re-election.
Commonwealth’s Attorney S. Randolph “Randy” Sengel announced Tuesday that he is retiring from his post at the end of his current term, which ends in December 2013. “I will not seek re-election in 2013 as I intend to retire from office when my current term ends,” Sengel said in a statement. “Service in this office is always a collaborative effort. I am honored to serve with a skilled, dedicated and professional staff of assistant prosecutors and support personnel. To the Editor: My office does business with the Alexandria Clerk of the Circuit Court many times each day, and Edward Semonian, Alexandria’s incumbent Circuit Court Clerk, runs one of the most efficient and professional offices in Virginia. His tenure in office continues to be distinguished by a level of service to members of the public and other user agencies which is exemplary.
