Thoughts on Three

Life with three kids under four, and discovering our "new normal."

My youngest daughter is now two-and-a-half weeks old. My mom, who was generously here to lend a hand, has headed home. Life as a family of five is starting to settle and soon we will begin to figure out our new normal.  Several weeks ago, a dad proudly holding his newborn daughter told me that parenting three children was tough, but not as tough two children. While that initially sounded backward, I think I am starting to understand what he meant.  It is hard to obsess over details when you have three small kids. Juggling a newborn while engaging my toddler and preschooler is quickly teaching me that micromanaging is no longer possible. The Home Front

Home Alone

Running a household solo isn't always easy.

My husband has had some lengthy business trips this year. He doesn’t usually travel this much but work has had him on the road quite a bit lately. While he spends weeks at a time in Montana, California and Hawaii, I’m left to man the home front on my own. And, pretend I’m not bitter about Hawaii. I can manage the kids, the housekeeping, the homework and the laundry just fine. However, such long absences leave me to pick up other household duties that are usually relegated to him, a few of which I am loathe to complete. First on that list would be taking out the garbage. Despite procuring a brand new garbage can from the city, the tough and gritty urban squirrels in Del Ray still managed to chew an access hole in the side of that same new …

Hi there, it is also important to consider the safety of our child and never leave them home alone. While reading an article on a blog, it mentioned that there was a service I could use to track my kids to be sure they were always in safe places.
