More than 30 neighborhoods across Alexandria recognized National Night Out on Tuesday evening with block parties, cookouts and other events. City officials partnered with the neighborhoods, the Alexandria Police Department, Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department for the nationwide crime and drug prevention effort sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. At the event in the field next to Mount Vernon Recreation Center in Del Ray, Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille told the crowd National Night Out is one of his favorite events of the year. Join Your Neighbors for 'National Night Out'

More than 30 neighborhoods in Alexandria will celebrate the Aug. 7 event highlighting crime prevention awareness.

City officials are partnering with local neighborhoods and the Alexandria Police Department to celebrate the 29th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday. The celebration from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. is part of a nationwide crime and drug prevention effort sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. To heighten awareness of crime prevention, residents in more than 30 Alexandria neighborhoods will turn on their porch lights, host neighborhood cook-outs and sponsor block parties in support of National Night Out. Events also will be held at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center field in the city's Del Ray neighborhood. Alexandrians Celebrate National Night Out on Aug. 2

Police and city host event to recognize national crime and drug prevention programs

City officials and the Alexandria Police are partnering to celebrate the 28th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday. The celebration, which takes place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., is part of a nationwide crime and drug prevention effort sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Residents in more than 27 Alexandria neighborhoods will turn on their porch lights, host neighborhood cookouts and sponsor block parties in support of National Night Out. Mayor Bill Euille, Acting City Manager Bruce Johnson, members of City Council and Chief of Police Earl Cook plan to visit residents throughout the city along with McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog, the K-9 Unit, Bike Patrol Unit and Motor Unit.
