Driver Strikes Police Cruiser During Traffic Stop

Nineteen-year-old arrested for reckless driving following Sunday night incident.

A 19-year-old male was arrested around 7:10 p.m. Sunday after striking the front of a Metro Transit Police cruiser with his car during a traffic stop at Braddock Road Metro station. An MTPD officer on routine patrol at Braddock Road Metro station initiated the traffic stop after observing a 1993 Mercedes drive through a red signal on Braddock Road and then enter the station parking lot through a bus bay exit with a posted “Do Not Enter” sign. The vehicle stopped briefly and then drove in reverse, striking the front of the police cruiser. The driver, identified only as a 19-year-old male, was placed under arrest for reckless driving and transported to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center for processing. Alexandria Police Department, You should watch at METRO BUS (BAD Drivers) on Mount Vernon Ave, I notice that many METRO BUS never pay attention and don't care about other vehicles accident Metro Bus. Smoldering Metro Track Tie Causes Delays

Alexandria Fire Department responds to track issue just north of Braddock Road Metro station.

Update — The Alexandria Fire Department extinguished the rail bed fires shortly before midnight. One engine remained on the scene until Metro arrived with water to saturate the area. — — — — The Alexandria Fire Department assisted the Metro Transit Police in cooling off a smoldering Metrorail track tie just north of Braddock Road Metro station on Friday night. A spokesperson with the Alexandria Fire Department told Patch two engines responded to the issue. Firefighters experienced trouble reaching the scene of the blaze because of the fence around the tracks. Metro was planning on sending a train through to pour some water on the smoldering tie, the spokesperson said. The fire appeared to be affecting the west side of the tracks. …

The delays started before 9:00 pm. I was on a yellow line train to Braddock and the conductor announced at least twice (maybe three times) that she had to leave -- as in exist -- the train to put out fires herself. Metro: Misdemeanor Sexual Assault at Braddock Metro in June

Nine bicycle theft incidents reported at King Street and Braddock Road stations last month.

Metro Transit Police responded to hundreds of calls in the month of June, according to the most recent police blotter. The following are incidents that occurred at or near area Metro stops. Braddock Road Metro Station June 26 — A bicycle theft incident was reported at 8:18 p.m. June 21 — A citation was handed out for failing to pay a fare at 9:13 p.m. June 19 — A bicycle theft incident was reported 6:44 p.m. June 19 — A bicycle theft incident was reported at 5:25 p.m. June 16 — A citation was given for an alcohol violation at 10:43 a.m. June 15 — An incident involving misdemeanor sexual assault was reported at 5:33 p.m.  June 13 — A bicycle theft incident was reported at 6:30 p.m. June 13 — A bicycle theft incident was reported at 5:43 p.m…

AFD Responds to Braddock Metro Brush Fire

Fire Department says Monday evening blaze isn't considered suspicious.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to a small brush fire outside Braddock Road Metro station on Monday evening. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Metro Transit Police. “We really just put out the fire for them,” said an AFD spokesperson. The blaze occurred around 6 p.m. in a line of hedges between the station entrance and its parking lot. AFD suppressed the blaze and handed the investigation over to the Metro Transit Police. “It was just a brush fire,” said an MTP spokesperson. “It isn’t considered suspicious.” Metro commuters are reminded to report any suspicious activity to MTP by calling 202-962-2121. Good point, McBrinn. Yes, smoking should be banned ANYWHERE on the Metro station grounds. It's both a hazard to the other passengers and a fire hazard. The health care community and fire department will likely agree with you. Braddock Road is actually cleaner than the King Street Station, which is littered with butts.
