MV Big Flea Raises More Than $35,000

Money raised will benefit education enrichment activities and help teachers purchase classroom supplies.

Following Saturday’s blowout sale, the MV Big Flea raised more than $35,000 for Mount Vernon Community School—a record for the event. The total far exceeded the $25,000 goal organizers set when shop ‘n’ drop events to collect and sell donated merchandise began in November.   All the money raised will fund education enrichment activities for students and help teachers purchase classroom supplies. Last year, the MV Big Flea raised $25,111, down from $30,619 in 2011. For the quickest updates on Del Ray and Alexandria, "like" Del Ray Patch on Facebook and follow @delraypatch on Twitter. After 12:15 at the Big Flea, everything left is FREE so some local non-profits come at the end of the day to collect the remaining donations. One of the wonderful things about this fundraiser is that every family, regardless of income, can contribute to it - by donating items, volunteering time and/or buying the items being sold below retail prices. Please consider supporting the businesses that …   more ›

The MV Big Flea is fast approaching and Saturday is the final Shop 'n Drop before the big sale on May 5.
