Justice needs to be served in this case! This officer was completely wrong and needs to be held without bond. He is a danger to the community. A 17 year vertern of the court conducting himself in this manner, shame! He acted like he was in the wild west or something. For that matter, this was a 22 year old neighbood kid that was apparntly trying to get in his aunts house away from him. He caught …   more ›

It was not self defense. We can not keep letting this happen to us. The police off duty or not will always look out for each other. Well, we could look out for ourselves, too. As silly as it might sound, now is definitely the time to come together. Let us make a difference not just for Julian but anybody else's friend, son, or cousin who could encounter another arrogant government official. Talk …   more ›

On Second Vote, Silberberg, Chapman Support Affordable Housing Project

First-time councilmembers granted revote after initially voting against Reed Avenue complex.

Alexandria City Council approved plans Saturday to construct a new affordable housing complex at the corner of E. Reed Avenue and Route 1 with a vote that was conducted twice, after the two dissenting council members asked to vote again so they could support it. The project submitted by nonprofit AHC calls for a three- to five-story building with 78 affordable housing units that will be marketed to residents with incomes up to 60 percent of the area’s median income for 60 years. If we could get people to clean up after themselves and stop littering we wouldn’t have this problem added to the parking situation. Have NEVER lived anywhere where the streets have had to be cleaned on a weekly basis because people are so inconsiderate. It’s embarrassing. >>>   more ›

Lynhaven Residents Sway Planning Commission

Area residents successfully pleaded with the commission not to make a decision that could potentially aggravate an already difficult parking situation.

The Planning Commission ultimately agreed with dozens of speakers who pleaded with its members not to make a decision that could aggravate already abysmal parking conditions in Lynhaven. Nonprofit AHC plans to build a three- to five-story building with nearly 80 affordable housing units for 60 years at the corner of E. Reed Avenue and Route 1. But the AHC proposal calls for its tenants to pay for parking at $35 per space per month. Area residents cried foul, saying the building's new tenants would try to circumvent the fee by searching for free street parking. The AHC representative, the omnipresent Alexandria lawyer Duncan Blair, said the city is spending a fortune on public transit and the E. Reed Avenue corridor is a “transit-oriented …
