Kelley Cares Miracle Field Poised for Play

The field is designed for players of all abilities, including those using wheelchairs or walkers.

The official dedication of the Kelley Cares Miracle Field is set for Saturday evening at the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center. The ceremony begins at 5 p.m., followed by a demonstration game with participants in the Miracle Baseball League of Alexandria. City officials and other community members also will play a whiffle ball game during the event. The field is a rubberized surface baseball diamond enabling people with special needs the opportunity to play outdoor sports in a quality environment, also allowing wheelchairs and walkers to be used safely. A Wall of Fame has been erected to recognize field donors and a local artist will paint a mural, incorporating features from therapeutic recreation classes, on a nearby building. The Kelley …

Kelley Cares 5K Draws Record Number of Participants

Portions of funds raised at the race will go toward the Miracle League of Alexandria's new field.

Approximately 850 runners and walkers took to the streets of Del Ray and Rosemont on Saturday morning for the 2012 Kelley Cares 5K. “This is our biggest Kelley Cares Race yet,” said Lindsey Swanson, race emcee.  The Kelley Cares Foundation was established in 2006 in memory of Kelley Swanson, a T.C. Williams High School graduate and active community volunteer. With the temperature in the low 60s and the humidity at a minimum, the early morning race was a dream for runners—and a couple dozen dogs, too. We were thrilled to see such a great turn-out for the run and enjoy seeing the event grow each year. Some of our neighbors were slightly inconvenienced but the police assisted them. For future years, it would be really helpful to our neighbors on Mt. Vernon Ave. (we are at Mt. Vernon directly across from the Braddock fields) if we could get notification about the event.
