Alexandria Police Department briefs Del Ray Citizens Association on recent crimes.
Members of the Alexandria Police Department briefed the Del Ray Citizens Association on Monday night on the recent uptick of crime in the area, including two robbery incidents, two business break-ins and two home break-ins in the last month. During the week of Jan. 14, two gunpoint robbery incidents were reported in Del Ray, including a hold-up at Tsim Yung Chinese Carryout on Mount Vernon Avenue. On Jan. 21, a laptop, iPad and cash were stolen in a nighttime break-in at The Happy Tart bakery on Mount Vernon Avenue. Suspects identified as three black males in their late teens or early 20s.
Three black males in their late teens or early 20s have been identified as suspects in an attempted gunpoint robbery reported the evening of Jan. 14 in the 500 block of E. Windsor Avenue in Del Ray. The suspects were in a black Toyota Camry when the incident occurred, according to a message from an Alexandria police officer to the Lynhaven Civic Association. The three suspects were in a Camry when they approached the male victim, who was soliciting for a local environmental nonprofit in the early evening. When the vehicle approached, one of the occupants pointed a silver handgun at the victim and demanded his wallet, cell phone and satchel. Attempted robbery reported on E. Windsor Avenue; Mount Vernon Avenue business held up by gun-toting robber.
Two robbery incident involving guns were recently reported in Del Ray. An attempted gunpoint robbery was reported the evening of Jan. 14 in the 500 block of E. Windsor Avenue. A male victim, who was soliciting for a local environmental nonprofit group, reported a vehicle pulling up to where he was standing around 6:26 p.m. A passenger in the vehicle pointed a gun at the victim and asked for his phone, wallet and satchel, according to information filed by the Alexandria Police Department on crimereports.com.
