The George Washington Birthday Parade in Old Town Alexandria celebrated George Washington's 281st birthday Monday. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s drew crowds to Old Town to watch the parade, which included local high school, military and other bands, politicians, police and fire officials, local group and businesses.

The free shuttle will run from the Eisenhower Metro to Prince and Washington streets on parade day.
The Alexandria Transit Company, also known as DASH, will provide free shuttle service to and from the George Washington Birthday Parade in Alexandria Monday. DASH will run a continuous, free shuttle from the Eisenhower Metrorail Station to Prince and Washington streets beginning at 11 a.m., with the last shuttle departing Prince and Washington streets at 4 p.m. to return to the Eisenhower Metro. The City of Alexandria will be closed Monday for the holiday, but things will be hopping with the George Washington Birthday Parade and related festivities.
All Alexandria City government offices will be closed on Monday in observance of George Washington’s Birthday—also known as Presidents Day. The following information was provided by the City of Alexandria: Trash and Recycling Collection: Due to Monday’s holiday, trash and recycling will be collected one day later than normal this week. Monday collection will occur Tuesday; Tuesday collection will occur Wednesday; Wednesday collection will occur Thursday; Thursday’s collection will occur Friday.
