A circuit court grand jury has indicted Marie Maybell Johnson in the murder of 94-year-old Del Ray resident Elmer Roehrs. Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Sengel said his office presented its case against Johnson to the grand jury during its regular session on Monday. The death of Del Ray resident Elmer Roehrs is now being considered a homicide by the Alexandria Police Department following the results of an autopsy performed Thursday. The 94-year-old was killed Wednesday evening in his home in the 2700 block of Holly Street in Del Ray. Police initially classified the case as a “suspicious death,” but did say Roehrs suffered trauma to his upper body. According to a myfoxdc.com report, Roehrs was killed during an apparent burglary or robbery. An investigation into the case continues. Police identified Roehrs as the victim late Thursday morning. Not specific to this, but a similar question was posed to Capt. Odgen and Det. Goble at the DRCA meeting last week: how long does it take to arrest someone after a warrant issues? Paraphrasing, they said it depends. It is much faster when someone has a known address or workplace or known associates.
