Republican lawmaker from Idaho was arrested in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood Dec. 23 when he was spotted running a red light by a local police officer.
NORTHERN VIRGINIA -- Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho pleaded guilty to a driving under the influence charge in court Friday morning in Virginia. He was fined $250 and his driver’s license was suspended for one year, according to Politico. Prosecutors dropped a charge of failing to obey a traffic signal. The DUI charge is a misdemeanor in Virginia. The Republican lawmaker also must participate in a program on alcohol safety. He will not have to serve a 180-day jail sentence if he has good behavior. After the hearing Friday, Crapo said outside the Alexandria City courthouse that he had been drinking a vodka and tonic at home the night of the arrest, but couldn't sleep and so went out for a drive, according to AP. U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) admitted to consuming several shots of vodka hours before being arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Sunday morning in Del Ray, according to Alexandria General District Court documents obtained by Patch. Crapo was pulled over near the corner of Mount Vernon and Hume avenues after an Alexandria police officer on routine patrol noticed Crapo's vehicle run a red light. The 61-year-old was arrested at 12:45 a.m. and taken into custody “without incident,” according to a police spokesperson. Crapo was transported to the city’s Adult Detention Center and later released on an unsecured $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 4. Ratliff, a 31-year police veteran, placed on administrative leave following Old Town accident
Alexandria Police Department Detective Eric Ratliff is facing charges of driving under the influence and unreasonable refusal following a one-car accident that occurred Saturday night in Old Town. According to a release from the department, Ratliff lost control of a city-owned vehicle and ran into a concrete pole at the intersection of Gibbon and South Patrick streets. No one else was involved in the accident, which happened around 6:30 p.m. Ratliff, a 31-year veteran of the police force, was treated for minor injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital and was later released. Yeah, I thought so... This guy doesn't deserve "kudos" for anything. He hasn't apologized to the citizens of DC, Alexandria, and (probably) Arlington for putting our lives in danger because of his reckless behavior.
