The Wednesday meet at Occoquan Park was selected to be featured on Patch.
The cross country meet between Annandale High School, Lee High School, T.C. Williams High School and South County Secondary School is the winner of this week's Patch's "Game of the Week" poll for the Patriot District. The meet earned 75 percent of the vote in this week's poll, beating out a field hockey game between W.T. Woodson and West Potomac, a Golf District Tournament between Lee, South County Secondary School, T.C. Williams, W.T. Woodson, West Potomac, West Springfield, Annandale and Lake Braddock, and a cross country meet between Lake Braddock, W.T. Woodson, West Potomac and West Springfield. T.C. Williams senior Shannon Smythe finished in 26th place in the Group AAA race at the Virginia High School League state cross country championships on Saturday in The Plains. Smythe was the only runner from coach Mike Hughes’ team to qualify for the race. She finished the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 9 seconds, which marked an improvement of 40 seconds and a climb of 12 places from her finish in the 2009 state championship (Smythe missed out on the 2010 race because of injury). On the season, Smythe finished 32nd in the state in the combined results from all races. She entered the state championship ranked No. 53 in the state. At Tuesday’s team dinner, Smythe received Most Valuable Athlete award for the fourth consecutive year. …

Titans win boys and girls races in varsity and junior varsity fields.
T.C. Williams took top honors in all four team competitions at the Alexandria City Cross Country Championship, held Oct. 6 at Episcopal High School. T.C. Williams bested Bishop Ireton, Episcopal and St. Stephen’s-St. Agnes in the boys and girls varsity races as well as the boys and girls junior varsity races. According to T.C. Williams coach Michael Hughes, the race marked the first time since 1995 that the Titans took all four team titles at the Alexandria meet. Bishop Ireton’s Liam O’Connor took top individual honors in the boys varsity competition. T.C. Williams’ Sydney Schaedel placed first in the girls varsity race.
