The mother-daughter team of Connie and Jackie Desrosiers is aiming for a fall opening of Emma’s, a new coffee and wine bar located at 106 Hume Ave. in Del Ray. Alexandria City Council approved plans for the establishment in January. A proposal to open a new coffee and wine bar on Hume Avenue received approval from Alexandria City Council on Saturday. The plan for Emma’s, located at 106 Hume Ave., calls for renovating an existing apartment building on the property, including the construction of a 954-square-foot addition. Two residential apartments will remain after the renovation, something owner Connie Desrosiers said would mitigate any noise concerns. “I need to keep my tenants happy,” said Desroisers, who put her business plan together with her daughter Jackie. A new coffee and wine bar on Hume Avenue in Del Ray moved one step closer to fruition last week when the Planning Commission approved the endeavor. Of 13 speakers who signed up to comment on the proposal put together by mother and daughter team Connie and Jackie Desrosiers, 12 were in support. "I think it will be a real asset to that end of Del Ray," said Connie Desrosiers. "We don't want to be a bar. It's a community gathering place," adding that there will be no amplified music. A new coffee shop and wine bar is in the works on Hume Avenue, and the owner is optimistic it will be open for business early next year. Del Ray residents Connie Desrosiers and her daughter Jackie are ramping up their efforts to open a new restaurant at 106 E. Hume Avenue called Emma P. Hume, or Emma’s for short. The name is a nod to the 1925 Emma P. Hume subdivision where the property resides. Desrosiers plans to make a soft opening as a coffee house and then pursue the wine bar element with early evening hours at a later point.
