Shop opens at 10 a.m. with lunch service following at 11 a.m.
Cheesetique in Del Ray is now open on Mondays. Owner Jill Erber opened the doors at 10 a.m. Monday for the first time in the eight-year history of the cheese shop and restaurant located at 2411 Mount Vernon Ave. “Why? Because it makes us feel really bad when we’re in the shop cleaning and people keep trying to walk through the locked door,” Erber wrote in a recent Cheesetique newsletter. “We are super-excited about the new schedule, so make sure to visit us on Mondays.” Both the Del Ray and Shirlington Cheesetique locations open at 10 a.m. on Mondays with lunch service beginning at 11 a.m. The restaurant and shop at both locations remain open until 10 p.m. on Mondays. Mac 'n Cheesetique dish is named one of the best in the country.
Food and Wine honored Cheesetique on Monday, naming its Mac ’n Cheesetique one of best macaroni and cheese dishes in the country. The mixture of three cheeses and elbow macaroni is finished with breadcrumbs and a touch of truffle oil. The dish is available at Cheesetique in Del Ray and Shirlington. Owner Jill Erber tells Food and Wine the dish is “savory and slightly sweet.” The Mac ’n Cheesetique was one of 17 dishes selected by food and wine and the lone selection from the Washington, DC region. Owner Jill Erber says the time was right to roll out a new menu in Del Ray.
Cheesetique owner Jill Erber says she has always wanted to do brunch in her Del Ray restaurant, but she just never stopped doing other things long enough to get it done. Now, however, Cheesetique is finally open for brunch on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. “I just said ‘We have to do it now!’” said Erber, who started regular brunch service in Del Ray on June 10. “It’s been a fun process. I live here and there are a lot of kids here. I just felt there’s sort of a shortage of fun things for breakfast.” There are about a dozen “carefully chosen” new entrees on the brunch menu, Erber said. Del Ray Pizzeria and Evening Star Cafe take top awards at 2012 Taste of Del Ray.
Residents of the Del Ray community and beyond came out with a hunger like no other Sunday for the fourth annual Taste of Del Ray. “Tickets for entrance to the Taste of Del Ray went extremely fast today,” said Gayle Reuter, a board member with Del Ray Business Association. With ideal weather conditions, the number of attendees exceeded the 1,000 mark with ease, Reuter said. She estimated that this year’s turnout in the parking lot behind the Virginia Commerce Bank surpassed previous totals, noting that the DRBA had to stop selling tickets in order to ensure that paid entrants would get their money's (and tummy's) worth. New autumn-winter menu offers hearty entrees and an expanded grilled cheese selection.
Cheesetique’s new dining room is open for business. Del Ray’s favorite destination for cheese and wine opened the door on its new 40-seat dining area last week. The new room, which Del Ray Patch first reported in July, features the familiar yellow, red and black color scheme but with a more rustic feel. The space includes a variety of different sized tables and a large shelf-lined wall with wine bottles. The addition, which doglegs behind HomeMade Pizza Co., also doubled the size of Cheesetique’s kitchen. The new room is currently open only for dinner.
