DASH Proposes Fare Hikes, Service Changes

A public hearing on the proposed changes will be held Thursday.

The Alexandria Transit Co. is proposing a mix of fare increases and service changes to make up for a city budget shortfall in fiscal year 2014. The board of directors for the transit company, which operates Alexandria’s DASH bus service, will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 at Alexandria City Hall. The budget shortfall could impact fare and service changes anticipated to take effect in July. Pat: I'm not sure how you can draw that conclusion from the Board's proposal. I see a reduction to a Trolley that exclusively serves Old Town. I see a minor reduction in the AT1 that primarily serves the West End. I see a minor reduction in the AT2 that serves both ends of the City. DASH Equips All Buses With Bike Racks

More than 50 buses were retrofitted with bike racks.

All Alexandria DASH buses are now equipped with bike racks as part of the bus company’s Bike-N-Roll program. Alexandria Transit Company mechanics and Sportworks contractors spent last weekend installing new bike racks on the 53 DASH buses that had not been equipped with them. Now, all DASH buses have front-mounted, two-position bike racks, and bikes can travel on the entire DASH fleet of 73 buses and five trolleys. In 2008, Alexandria City Council passed the Eco-City Charter and adopted the Environmental Action Plan for fiscal years 2009-2030. DASH Increases Service to Northern Virginia Community College

DASH is offering more frequent runs to school immediately.

Alexandria Transit Company announced that riders on DASH's AT6 route will see more frequent service between the King Street Metro station and Northern Virginia Community College, effective immediately. This change will increase service from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes in the morning and evening peak periods and improve schedule adherence, which has been affected by increasing ridership in recent years, according to DASH. New DASH Ride Guides are available on all DASH buses, the Alexandria Metrorail stations, the Alexandria Transit Store on Diagonal Road, the Ramsay House Visitor Center at King and Fairfax streets and City Hall.
