I was defending the word "newcomer", and commenting on the post above me from Matt that read "but Alexandria voters shouldn't be trusting newcomers at face value". I think you misread my post. I have no problem with a "newcomer". I'm happy with Mark Warner.   more ›

Del. Krupicka Heads to Richmond with Eye on Education

Krupicka plans to address a diverse portfolio of issues, but says the bulk of his bills will focus on education.

Newly elected state Del. Rob Krupicka is headed to Richmond next week with a focus on education. “The bulk of my bills deal with education issues and a lot of my education concepts are informed by my work on the Board of Education and the relationships I built from that,” Krupicka told Patch editors last month in an interview at Del Ray’s St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub. Krupicka served on the state Board of Education since 2009 where he has been a strong advocate of early childhood education and increasing math and science opportunities in the commonwealth. He stepped down from that role when elected to the General Assembly. The board work “also informs how I think about drafting bills in the sense that I’m not trying to draft education policy that…

Former Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka says education will be an area of focus for him in Richmond.

Rob Krupicka is officially a state delegate. The former Alexandria City Council member was sworn in Friday morning in Richmond as the representative to the 45th District in the House of Delegates. Krupicka’s wife Lisa, their two daughters and several friends joined Krupicka as he took the oath of office. “I’m honored to be entrusted with representing the interests of the residents of the 45th District,” Krupicka said in a press release. The Democrat defeated Republican Tim McGhee and Libertarian Justin Malkin by a wide margin in a special election held Sept. 4. The seat became vacant when David Englin resigned effective Aug. 31. Krupicka plans on spending the next three months developing his legislative agenda by reaching out to …

Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka handily won over his two competitors, Republican Tim McGhee and Libertarian Justin Malkin.

Democrat Rob Krupicka won in a landslide Tuesday night in his quest to secure a House of Delegates seat representing the 45th District of Virginia. "[This election] is a wakeup call for all of us for the next two months that we are going to work tirelessly so the direction of this state and country keeps moving forward to make our country stronger," Krupicka said at his victory party at Fireflies in Del Ray. "You're not going to stop us for standing up for what we believe in as a community. That's standing up for education, equal pay, good jobs, giving everyone a seat at the table no matter their sexual orientation or race." Krupicka took 75.7 percent of the vote—about 6,384 total votes—in the unofficial count after polls closed at 7 p.m. …

Sheldon Adelson, Romney's uber-billionaire casino owner and financial backer, pledged to give Romney $100 million -- or "whatever it takes" -- to defeat Obama. Do you know why??? As Bill Clinton reminded us, sometimes the answer is as simple as arithmetic. So let's do the math: According to a new report from the Center for American Progress Action Fund, Adelson will get $2 billion in tax savings …   more ›

Sherry- no one doubts the Dems have this place in the bag. Our terrible school board, meaningless mayor, and diversion of resources and time to issues that have no place at the city level are proof enough. Congrats on the "big" win.   more ›

JohnInNova, I don't see how you can say this was written with any political bias. It is just an article of facts. I can tell you though, and this will be a fact later this evening, is that Rob Krupicka will win very decisively, by a HUGE margin.   more ›

Libertarian Malkin Makes Run at House of Delegates

Libertarian Justin Malkin is one of three candidates on the ballot in Tuesday's 45th District special election.

Justin Malkin’s platform for the 45th District seat in the House of Delegates is a simple one, one that he even says is a little corny. “I honestly believe in my message and that it will resound with voters, and that’s social tolerance and fiscal responsibility,” he said. The Libertarian candidate is on Tuesday’s special election ballot, where he will face Democrat Rob Krupicka and Republican Tim McGhee. How does his Libertarian Party philosophy mesh with a constituency that largely depends on the government for jobs and livelihood? Malkin says it’s an uphill battle, but he also believes the 45th District is not an outright void when it comes to libertarian thinking. “I think there are a lot people out there who will take a government job …

Perhaps what we in Alexandria need in our leadership is someone who isn't part of the "system". In other words, perhaps we need someone who is not a career politician. We could use a shake up at all levels of our government.   more ›

Club says voters who care about the environment should vote for Rob Krupicka.

The Sierra Club endorsement comes a week before the Special Election on Sept. 4 for a delegate to represent the 45th District, which represents Alexandria as well as parts of Fairfax and Arlington counties. “Rob Krupicka has been a champion on environmental and clean energy issues while on the Alexandria City Council; just the kind of leadership we need in the Virginia General Assembly," said Glen Besa, director of the Virginia Chapter of Sierra Club. Virginia Education Association Endorses Krupicka

Group says Krupicka will act in the best interest of children and the association's members.

Rob Krupicka got the nod from the Virginia Education Association on Monday in his bid to compete for a delegate seat representing the state’s 45th District in the House of Delegates. “Because public education is so vital to Virginia’s well-being, the VEA Fund for Children and Public Education recommends candidates for office we believe will act in the best interest of children and our members in the public schools who serve them,” said VEA President Meg Gruber. “Mr. Krupicka clearly passes our test.” “Rob Krupicka has been a friend and advocate for the students, teachers and staff of the Alexandria City Public Schools,” said Gina Miller, president of the Education Association of Alexandria and chair of the Alexandria PAC for Education. “We…
