Jacob Choi ran into the street May 4 on Stevenson Avenue.
Alexandria police have released the name of the 4-year-old boy who was struck and killed May 4 when he ran into the street and in front of an oncoming SUV. Police identified the boy as Jacob Choi. They did not say if he lived near the crash area, on Stevenson Avenue in West End Alexandria. A police spokeswoman earlier said that Choi had family in the area. The boy was walking alongside the road with his mother when he broke free and ran, said Alexandria police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt. The boy’s mother ran after him and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Speed was not determined to be a factor in the crash, and the 84-year-old driver of the Jeep SUV faces no criminal charges. Long after the ambulances and TV crews are gone, after police operations return to normal, Alexandria officer Peter Laboy still suffers. Laboy, who was shot in the head Feb. 27 during a traffic stop in Old Town, is back home, recuperating with family. Local residents who took the shooting to heart continue to raise funds for the family. That includes Vicki Forness of Arlington, owner of B&C Jewelers at the Bradlee Shopping Center in Alexandria. Forness, along with friend and loyal customer Karen Bune, is selling a badge pendant honoring Laboy. Four-year-old boy was struck by vehicle, killed Saturday in Alexandria.
Alexandria police say charges will not be filed against the driver of a SUV who struck and killed a 4-year-old boy Saturday in West End Alexandria. • See: 4-Year-Old Hit, Killed in Alexandria; Mother Injured Police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt said Monday that she could not release the speed of the vehicle at the time of the collision, which also injured the boy’s mother, saying it was under investigation. The speed limit in the area where the crash occurred, in the 6300 block of Stevenson Avenue, is 35 mph. “It just looks like a horrible and unfortunate accident,” Hildebrandt said. Update (4:53 p.m.): The body found Monday afternoon in the area of Gravelly Point Park in Arlington is that of 83-year-old Victoria Kong, who was reported missing Friday, the U.S. Park Police have confirmed. "The exact location was north of the airport, south of Gravelly Point off the George Washington Parkway approximately 30 feet from the bike trail in a wooded area," spokesman Paul Brooks said in an email. A search and rescue team with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department found Kong, according to Brooks. The investigation is ongoing. Victoria Kong, 83, was last seen Friday walking toward Gravelly Point.
Authorities are looking for a missing woman who was last seen Friday on the Mount Vernon Trail. Victoria Kong, 83, was walking north toward Gravelly Point near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 6:30 p.m. Friday when she went missing, according to a news release sent Sunday by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department. Kong is a 5-foot-3, 130-pound Hispanic female from Barbados who has a light skin tone. She has brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing a long purple and brown dress with a floral design and sandals. She was carrying a tan sweater or jacket with a black purse. 9:45 p.m. Update — Police were called to the 500 block of Four Mile Road for a report of trouble unknown around 6 p.m., accoding to a release from the Alexandria Police Department. Upon arrival, police discovered two injured Hispanic males in a vehicle. The victims were both transported to Fairfax Hospital with what are being described as life-threatening injuries.
