Weekend: 2014 Del Ray House & Garden Tour Is Saturday

There are 10 homes on this year's tour.

It's one of the most popular events in Alexandria and it only rolls around every two years: This Saturday, May 10, is the 2014 Del Ray House & Garden Tour. The self-guided tour runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

The biennial event, brought to you by the Del Ray Citizens Association, serves as a fundraiser for neighborhood projects and the Alexandria Scholarship Fund.

The last tour in 2012 was the largest ever, with 660 tickets sold.

There are 10 homes on the tour this year, ranging from a 1940s row house to an amazing “green” renovation to one of the few Del Ray homes with an in-ground pool, according to a description by the Del Ray Citizens Association. "From flights of artistic fancy to small spaces lived large, the tour has a little something for everyone," DRCA notes.

The tour is an opportunity to check out the work of local architects and builders and to get great ideas on paint colors, tiles, decorative hardware, bath and kitchen fixtures and more.
