Alexandria Father's Day Weekend

Find out what's happening in Alexandria all weekend.

Happy Father's Day weekend! Yes, we know, Father’s Day is only on Sunday and of course you can take Dad out for a nice dinner and spend time with the family, but there are some great events happening all around Alexandria this weekend. So take Dad out for some fun this weekend and celebrate him all weekend.

Here’s what’s happening in Alexandria this weekend:

Saturday, June 14:

  • Alexandria War of 1812 Commemoration Boat Cruise. Is Dad a big history buff? If so, take the whole family out for a historic boat cruise along the Potomac River. The event comes with food inspired from the war, accounts of the Battle of the White House at Fort Belvoir and Fort Washington and costumed characters. The cruise will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. starting at the Alexandria City Marina (1 Cameron St.).
  • Old Town Arts & Crafts Fair in Collaboration with ArtsFEST. The culminating event of ArtsFEST is this Saturday. Enjoy performances by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, as well as dance performances, live music and theater from local groups. Events will take place at the Torpedo Factory Stage and at Market Square. For the full lineup and schedule, check out the event page.

Sunday, June 15:

  • Father’s Day Barbecue at Mount Vernon. Treat Dad to a day out at the barbecue -- best part is he won’t have to be the one grilling. The barbecue will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mount Vernon: George Washington Estate & Gardens (3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway); admission comes with an entrée, side, dessert and beverage.
  • Father’s Day Open House at Friendship Firehouse Museum. Stop by the Friendship Firehouse (107 S. Alfred St.) and check out the equipment firefighters used in the early 19th Century. Admission is free for fathers and their families. A photographer will also be on hand, so you can take home a family portrait with Dad.
  • Free Father’s Day Tours at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum. Check out the historic Gadsby’s Tavern  (134 N. Royal St.) where Fathers of the Country ate and drank. Tours run between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Admission is free for Dad!
