Veterans Day — Alexandria is hosting two Veterans Day events on Monday, Nov. 11 — one at 11 a.m. at the Alexandria Black History Museum and a second at 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon Recreation Center. Read about them here: "Alexandria Hosting Two Veterans Day Events."

Council Meeting — Alexandria City Council is holding its first legislative meeting of the month at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at City Hall (301 King St.). The meeting’s docket includes an update on Capital Bikeshare expansion into Del Ray and Carlyle and discussion of the affordable housing contributions deriving from the development of the National Science Foundation Headquarters building on Eisenhower Avenue.

The Time Jumpers — Vince Gill brings his Western Swing band to the Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave.) for a 7:30 p.m. show on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The group’s 2012 self-titled album was nominated for two Grammys, including best country group performance for “On the Outskirts of Town.” Tickets are $59.50 and they’re available through the Birchmere website.

Board of Architectural Review Old and Historic District — This group, which regulates the third oldest historic district in the United States, meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall (301 King St.) to discuss proposed architectural changes. This week’s meeting includes an informal work session with public testimony about the proposed redevelopment plan for the city’s Old Health Department Building in the 500 block of N. Saint Asaph Street. In June, Alexandria sold the surplus property to local developer Y-12 Investments for $5.23 million.

2nd Thursday Art Night: Flash! FotoWeekDC — The studios and galleries at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N. Union St.) will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 for this month’s free photo-themed event. Stop by receptions for the “Reflections” exhibit at the Target Gallery and Everitt Clark’s solo show in The Art League Gallery. Events include live music and refreshments.
