An Evening with Laurie Olin — Alexandria kicks off a series of meetings concerning the city waterfront’s landscape and flood mitigation design process at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, with a lecture from renowned landscape architect Laurie Olin. The two-hour meeting will be held at the United Way Worldwide Building (701 N. Fairfax St.). Olin was the recipient of the 2012 National Arts Medal and his firm will assist the city over the next nine months on its waterfront redevelopment plan.
Poems and Stories of Edgar Allan Poe — Actors from Guillotine Theatre will read stories and poems by the most famous dropout in the University of Virginia’s history at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the reputed-to-be-haunted Athenaeum (201 Prince St.).
