U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, Landscape Architect Laurie Olin and Edgar Allan Poe

Congressional conversation — U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th) is the special guest of the Del Ray Citizens Association for its monthly membership meeting, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14 at the Reingold office (433 E. Monroe Ave.). Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m.  

An Evening with Laurie Olin — Alexandria kicks off a series of meetings concerning the city waterfront’s landscape and flood mitigation design process at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, with a lecture from renowned landscape architect Laurie Olin. The two-hour meeting will be held at the United Way Worldwide Building (701 N. Fairfax St.). Olin was the recipient of the 2012 National Arts Medal and his firm will assist the city over the next nine months on its waterfront redevelopment plan.

Poems and Stories of Edgar Allan Poe — Actors from Guillotine Theatre will read stories and poems by the most famous dropout in the University of Virginia’s history at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the reputed-to-be-haunted Athenaeum (201 Prince St.). A dessert reception will follow the reading. Tickets are $10. For more information, call 703-548-0035.

Free Yoga — Maureen Clyne of Prasada Yoga hosts a free Harvest Moon Yoga class outdoors from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at 1900 Mount Vernon Ave. The class is suitable for all levels. For more information, check out the event listing on the Del Ray Patch calendar.

Kenny G — Consider yourself warned. The smooth jazz saxophonist begins a two-night stand at the Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave.) on Tuesday night. Tickets are $65 and remain available for both shows. For more information, check out the Birchmere website.
