'The Polar Express,' Your Favorite Del Ray Christmas Tree and Wounded Warrior Artwork

Plus, the Mount Vernon Holiday Trolley and where to dine on Christmas Day.

A quick glance at the holiday week ahead in Alexandria:

“The Polar Express” — The Old Town Theater will be screening the 2004 computer-animated film version of Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved holiday children’s book at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23. Tom Hanks voices six different characters in the film. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Old Town Theater’s website. The Old Town Theater is located at 815 King St.

Vote For Your Favorite Del Ray Christmas Tree — Twelve Christmas trees decorated by local groups and Del Ray businesses are currently on display along Mount Vernon Avenue. The Del Ray Business Association is asking folks to cast votes for their favorite tree in its “Miracle on Main Street” promotion on the association’s website. The group or business that receives the most votes for their tree will win a basket of prizes from Del Ray businesses. Voting runs through Dec. 25.

IMPART Exhibit — The Art League Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N. Union St.) is currently showing its IMPART Ceramics Exhibit featuring work by eight ceramic artists, all of whom are part of the League’s IMPART Project. The project is a unique collaboration between The Art League and the Wounded Warriors at Fort Belvoir that offers the creative outlet of visual arts to recently injured military personnel, their escorts and caregivers, while aiding their transition to health and healing. The exhibit was featured last week in The Washington Post. The Art League Gallery opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and is open through 6 p.m. On Thursday, the hours are extended to 9 p.m. The gallery is open from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Closed on Christmas Day.

Holiday Trolley to Mount Vernon — Extend your holiday season with a trolley trip from Old Town to George Washington’s Mount Vernon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The holiday trolley will board at the corner of King and N. Fairfax streets on the hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The trolley will return to Old Town on the half-hour from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The tickets for the trolley include admission to Mount Vernon and cost $25 for adults and $8 for children under 12.
