Alexandria, Amazon’s “Most Well-Read City” Can Now Support Its Library When Purchasing From the Retailer

Rated the number one well-read city in the nation for two years in a row, the city of Alexandria can now support its local library when purchasing from Amazon.com through the Alexandria Library website. Having partnered with the online retailer, Alexandria Library introduces the “Buy It Now” feature, allowing anyone to purchase any item—not just books—through its website with a simple click of a button, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated back to the library. Users of the library website can additionally take note that Amazon’s “Buy It Now” prompt will appear after a catalog search if a book, CD, DVD or audiobook is not available.

“Since our city tops the charts on Amazon book sales nationwide, this partnership seemed very practical,” said the Library’s Director, Rose T. Dawson. “Our residents are not only huge advocates of books, but also of the Alexandria Library. The “Buy It Now” option meets the needs of our community, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their love for us, even when they aren’t purchasing books.”

Dawson added that while the institution is committed to providing free services, there are times when there are not enough copies of books available, and the purchase option will allow anyone the opportunity to buy items while still supporting the Library.
