T.C. Williams Falls to Westfield 28-13

Titans fail to recover from early deficit.

Westfield football coach Kyle Simmons is just two games into his tenure with the Bulldogs, but the new coach is making it clear that being average will not be tolerated.

The Bulldogs scored two quick touchdowns on their first two
possesions to beat T.C. Williams 28-13 on Saturday night in Chantilly.

"We played pretty decent in the first quarter, but I got disappointed at the end of the first quarter and into the second quarter [when] we got a little sloppy," Simmons said. "We need to work on that and get a little better."

The Bulldogs (2-0) scored two minutes into the game when senior quarterback Matthew Pisarcik found senior wideout Quentin Basil on a wide-open seam route for a 42-yard touchdown pass. Minutes later, with 7:18 left in the first quarter, Pisarcik guided senior receiver Artie Pickett with a 25-yard touchdown pass to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

"They're the No. 3 team in the region," said T.C. Williams coach Dennis Randolph. "You can't get down 14-0."

T.C. Williams (1-1) drove deep into Westfield territory midway through the second quarter, but the Bulldogs held a 14-0 lead at halftime after junior defensive back Sean Simpson intercepted a pass inside the 10-yard line to halt a drive from the Titans.

To start the second half, the Bulldogs ran on every down on a drive that ended with senior tailback Kendell Anderson scoring on a 1-yard right toss sweep to give Westfield a 21-0 lead.

Anderson took the bulk of the carries for the Bulldogs and finished with 140 yards on the night.

"When it's not there, when there's not a seam where he
can use his speed, he will lower his shoulder and try to run over you,"
Simpson said of Anderson's rugged running style.

The Titans got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run from senior tailback Zaquan Summers to bring the score to 21-7.

Pisarcik found his favorite traget, receiver Quentin Basil, on a quick 15-yard strike to give Westfield a commanding three-touchdown
lead with six minutes remaining in the game. It was Pisarcik's third touchdown pass of the game.

A bright spot for T.C. Williams was the combination of junior quarterback Alec Grosser and junior receiver Landon Moss.

Grosser connected with Moss on two fourth-down situations, one which resulted in a 6-yard touchdown on fade pattern deep in the end zone to shorten the gap to 28-13 late in the game.

T.C. Williams opens its home season at 1 p.m. Saturday when it plays host to Robinson (0-1).
