Registration Open for the 2013 Alexandria Turkey Trot

Finish line to annual Thanksgiving Day race moves behind George Washington Middle School.

Registration is now open online for the 38th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot, which will begin for the third straight year at George Washington Middle School on Thanksgiving morning.

The standard race entry fee is $20. Registration for runners ages 13 to 20 is $15, while children under 13 can register for $5. Runners may also purchase a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt or a short-sleeve technical T-shirt for an extra $10 with their registration.

Online registrants have the option of making a donation to race beneficiary ALIVE!, a nonprofit organization consisting of volunteers from more than 40 religious congregations and community groups working to help in-need Alexandrians.

This year’s race will once again have special fields for runners with strollers and runners with leashed dogs.

The 5-mile race is presented by the Del Ray Business Association and DC Road Runners. The event is the DRBA’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Close to 5,000 registered for the 2012 race.

This year’s race will begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 28. The finish line will move off Mount Vernon Avenue and behind George Washington Middle School, something race organizer John Reynolds said could help get Mount Vernon open to traffic more quickly.
