NCAA Tournament 2013: Where to Watch March Madness in Alexandria

The NCAA 2013 basketball tournament gets into gear Thursday. East Regional Semifinals, Finals are at DC's Verizon Center.

March Madness 2013 started this week and doesn’t end until the final buzzer of the last game on Monday, April 8.

Here in Virginia, a number of men’s college basketball teams are "in the dance" – Virginia Commonwealth University, James Madison University and, in DC, Georgetown. Liberty was bounced on Tuesday night in the tournament opener.

Where to Watch the NCAA Tournament in Alexandria

Games are being broadcast on TruTV and at www.ncaa.com/march-madness-live.

Here are a few places you might think about going in Alexandria if you want to watch the game with a group:

When do Virginia and DC teams play?

  • VCU plays Akron at 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
  • James Madison plays Indiana at 4:10 p.m. Friday.
  • Georgetown faces Florida Gulf Coast University at 6:50 p.m. Friday.

Future games will be based on who wins these first- and second-round matchups.

East Regional Semifinals and Finals are in Washington, DC at the Verizon Center.

The East Regionals are March 28 and March 30 at the Verizon Center in DC. You can still get tickets by going to the Verizon Center website or by searching for tickets online from ticket reseller Stubhub.com or a similar service.

Who’s in the East Regionals? The East Regional bracket includes: Indiana, James Madison, NC State, Temple, UNLV, California Syracure, Montana, Butler, Bucknell, Marquette, Davidson, Illinois, Colorado, Miami and Pacific.

Only four of these teams will make it to play at the Verizon Center; those teams are TBD.

Who’s favored to win it all?

The four No. 1 seeds heading into the tournament and Louisville, Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga. Of course, anything can happen, but the early favorite based on betting in Las Vegas is Louisville.

The finals are April 6 and April 8 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

What about the women’s tournament?

The women’s 2013 NCAA basketball tournament doesn’t start until March 23, and teams are still being selected for that. Read more about it at www.ncaa.com/sports/basketball-women/d1.

What is the NIT?

Many joke that the NIT means “not in (the) tournament” but it actually stands for National Invitation Tournament.

The NIT field of 32 teams started its tournament on Tuesday. Those games will appear on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.
