Obama's Drug Czar Visits Holy Cow for Small Business Saturday

Gil Kerlikowske visits Del Ray burger spot to highlight job creation and the importance of employment in recovery from drug addiction.

Gil Kerlikowske, President Obama’s top drug policy advisor, visited Holy Cow on Saturday in support of Small Business Saturday.

The director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy was taking part in an effort from Obama’s cabinet and advisors to highlight small businesses throughout the country.

Holy Cow, recently named the 2013 Small Business of the Year by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, donates a quarter of each burger sold to a charity of the patron’s choice through ACT for Alexandria.

“Job creation is a key part of small businesses, which is what we’re highlighting here today,” said Kerlikowske, a former Alexandria resident from when he worked at the U.S. Department of Justice. “In terms of drug addiction and recovery, one of the greatest benefits is having a job. Along with having a roof over your head, the chances of remaining drug-free are so much more improved when you have a job.”

Kerlikowske was joined by Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, ACT for Alexandria Executive Director John Porter and Alexandria Chamber President John Long, among others.
