Radomsky Leaving Mount Vernon Community School

Principal took job in July 2010.

Mount Vernon Community School Principal Tina Radomsky is resigning at the end of the school year.

Radomsky announced her decision in a letter sent home to parents.

“As many of you know, it has been impossible for my husband to relocate and I must rejoin my family back home in Chicago,” she wrote. “The decision to move back home was mine. I am extremely thankful for the support that [Alexandria Schools Superintendent Morton] Sherman has extended to me during my tenure in Alexandria.”

Radomsky took over at Mount Vernon in July 2010. Shortly after taking the job, Radomsky told Patch her goals were to increase focus on reading and math and improving instruction and student learning. She also wanted to pursue more professional development opportunities for teachers.

“There is still much work to be done, but I believe our school is headed in the right direction,” Radomsky wrote. “It is still a little early to discuss the process to fill this important vacancy. Dr. Sherman is convening a school-parent team to work jointly with central office to define a transition plan. I am certain that the team will determine a process and is committed to continuing the progress that we have already established."

In her letter, Radomsky thanked the MVCS staff and the parent community for their support during her tenure.

Over the past decade, MVCS has seen substantial turnover at principal.

MVCS is one of two elementary schools in Alexandria that operates on a modified calendar, which essentially divides summer vacation into several smaller breaks throughout the year. The school currently offers five weeks of intersession programming. These sessions offer remediation to children who need it as well as enrichment opportunities.

In his most recent budget proposal, Sherman suggested cutting back to three weeks of intersession.

Request for comment from the central office of Alexandria City Public Schools was not immediately returned Thursday morning.
