Administrators thank students for meeting the challenges of academic transformation

The T.C. Williams High School class of 2011 made its exit Saturday during commencement exercises in the school’s gymnasium.

Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Morton Sherman and T.C. Williams Principal Suzanne Maxey addressed the graduates and their assembled family and friends, thanking them for taking on the academic transformation of the school.

“You’ve accomplished so much in your high school careers,” Sherman said. “Your graduation rate is the highest in the history of ACPS.”

According to an ACPS spokesperson, the class of 2011 had 667 students and 634 of them received diplomas Saturday. The on-time graduation rate, which tracks students on their four-year high school career, will be computed later in the year.

“You showed you could have academic achievement by following the rules and still have fun,” Maxey said. “Thank you for accepting the challenges.”
