Mount Vernon Community School students who completed a summer reading program received the opportunity to send their principal into a dunk tank on Thursday.

students who completed a summer reading program received the opportunity to put their principal into a dunk tank on Thursday as part of a reading celebration at the school.

Principal Peter Balas, sporting a new MVCS T-shirt students received Thursday from the PTA, sat high atop the top the tank as students who turned in completed summer reading logs—there about 300 of them—each received one chance to throw a ball at a target.

If the target was struck, Balas got wet.

Teachers also got the chance to send Balas into the depths of the tank, though they had to stand farther away from the target.

The school’s second-grade students turned in the most logs of any grade, so they received the opportunity to participate in a student versus faculty volleyball game later in the day.

The celebration also included a school-wide drop-everything-and-read time on the field, where students received popsicles.
