Winter Weather Advisory in Alexandria Monday Morning

Federal government will open at noon.

Alexandria is under a winter weather advisory from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Sleet and freezing rain will hit Northern Virginia will develop before dawn and continue through mid-morning—straight through the morning commute.

The federal government announced late Sunday that it will not open until noon Monday. Non-emergency federal employees in the entire Washington, DC area are urged to stay off the roads until at least 10 a.m.

Alexandria City Public Schools are opening on a two-hour delay. St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School and Bishop Ireton are also opening two hours late.

City of Alexandria offices are open as scheduled with unscheduled leave permitted for employees.

Temperatures will be about 30 degrees, but will rise to the mid-30s during the day.

The weather service advises that "icing will produce slippery conditions on untreated roads, bridges and sidewalks, particularly during the Monday morning commute."
