The top portion of the dog park at Simpson Stadium Park along E. Monroe Avenue will be closed through the winter as city staff works to address safety hazards and restore the soil and turf.

City crews planned to cordon off the upper portion of the dog park on Jan. 10, depending on the weather. As of the afternoon of Jan. 12, the entire exercise area remained open.

The lower area of the dog park will remain open while city crews work on the upper portion of the canine exercise area.

In October 2013, Alexandria City Council approved lighting for the popular Del Ray dog park.

A new 1-acre dog park is planned directly across from the current dog park on E. Monroe Avenue.

Wow -- what a great use of tax dollars once again

I agree. It is a good use of tax dollars. That dog park is heavily used by many city residents and their dogs. As the article mentions, the work will address safety hazards. The restoration will make this area safer for dogs and humans.
