Rob Krupicka is officially a state delegate.

Krupicka’s wife Lisa, their two daughters and several friends joined Krupicka as he took the oath of office.

“I’m honored to be entrusted with representing the interests of the residents of the 45th District,” Krupicka said in a press release.

The Democrat defeated Republican Tim McGhee and Libertarian Justin Malkin by a wide margin in a special election held Sept. 4. The seat became vacant when David Englin resigned effective Aug. 31.

Krupicka plans on spending the next three months developing his legislative agenda by reaching out to constituents. He intends to hold a series of office hours around the 45th District, which includes parts of the City of Alexandria and Arlington and Fairfax counties.

He indicated in a press release that issues of education, the environment, transportation and small business would be areas of focus for him.

“I am looking forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues to make the success of our schools a top priority,” Krupicka said in a press release. “Closing student achievement gaps creates enormous opportunity for Virginia. The future prosperity of the Commonwealth is directly related to the capacity and skill of every single student. Closing the gaps and helping all students succeed maximizes that potential. Success for all of our students will unleash economic growth, help us attract employers to our state, and will strengthen our ability to compete in the world.”

He added that the state must adjust how it measures and funds schools, how it can support and attract good teachers and parent-led educational innovation.

“Our economy, our values, our promise of opportunity for everybody depends on all families and children having great educational opportunities,” the Del Ray resident said in a press release. “We need to back up high expectations with tools to help parents, teachers, and students get there.”
