HomeAid Northern Virginia, Pulte Homes Finish Community Lodgings Renovation

HomeAid Northern Virginia and Pulte Homes celebrated the renovation of a 10-unit Community Lodgings apartment building in Arlandria on Wednesday.

HomeAid and Pulte partnered to renovate the building in the 600 block of Notabene Drive—one of five apartment complexes owned and operated by Community Lodgings. The apartments serve as transitional housing for homeless families and individuals.

The renovation enables Community Lodgings to increase the number of people it serves annually.

“What Community Lodgings is able to do never ceases to amaze me,” said Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, who also touted the importance of public-private partnerships in providing services to Alexandria’s in-need citizens.

Renovating the complex cost roughly $870,000. Freddie Mac provided $250,000 and the city offered a loan for the project.

The project recorded nearly 40 percent in savings from the builder captain and trade partners to secure new kitchen cabinets, countertops and appliances, new windows, plumbing, electronic fixtures, roofing, hardwood and tile flooring and more.

Nonprofits, churches and individuals also provided donations to partially furnish the apartments and outfit several of the kitchens.

The renovation work at the building began in August with a similar ceremony.
