Four Mile Run Market Closes For Season

Park receives large donation for renovation efforts.

The Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market closed for the season with a bit of a bang on Sunday when it hosted some fun diversions to pair with its normal selection of fresh produce and other goodies.

Will Artley, the former chef at Evening Star Cafe, stopped by around noon for a cooking demonstration.

Artley prepared pumpkin french toast for market attendees and vendors.

“I just want to show that there’s more you can do with pumpkin,” Artley said.

The chef is currently taking some time off following . While flipping toast, Artley spoke of recently upping his exercise regimen and making some time to kick back before figuring out his next culinary destination.

Artley wasn’t the only attraction on Sunday: Gale Nemec, an actress and children’s book author, performed “Hansel and Gretel” earlier in the morning for kids and their parents.

The end of market season also provided some exciting news for the folks at Four Mile Run. An anonymous $10,000 donation was recently made to the city to be used exclusively toward efforts to revitalize the park, which hosts the market.

While the donation will help revitalization efforts, large portions of work remain unfunded.

Four Mile Run Market organizers are currently seeking donations to Alexandria’s Living Landscape Fund to be designated toward the Four Mile Run efforts.

The first phase of park expansion is expected to begin this fall.

The Four Mile Run Market will reopen in April.

The Del Ray Farmers' Market, which is held Saturdays at the corner of Mt. Vernon and E. Oxford avenues, is open year round.
