City Employee Arrested for Embezzlement

A human resources employee with the City of Alexandria is on administrative leave without pay after being arrested and charged with felony embezzlement.

An Alexandria Police investigation indicated Jeffrey Power, 44, an employee with the city for more than a decade, had been taking unearned overtime pay from the city.

The police investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible, according to a release issued by the city on Thursday afternoon.

The city’s HR department is also conducting its own inquiry. According to the release, the department has "instituted a strict overtime and compensatory time approval procedure."
