Can You Help Rescue Reston Spread The Word?

Grassroots group needs help rotating new banners to strategic spots near Reston National Golf Course.

Rescue Reston, the grassroots group aimed at stopping development at has two new banners it hopes will get the attention of local residents.

The banners that say "It's Colts Neck Road not Bottle Neck Road,” and ‘It's Sunrise Valley Drive not Hi-rise Valley drive," have been placed in several spots on roads nearby the golf course in South Reston.

The group wants to move them around every few days in order to garner to biggest audience.

"It is important because the banners do not become a part of everyday scenery, said Rescue Reston executive director John Pinkman. "But we will need help to move the signs in the coming weeks."

Rescue Reston was formed over the summer after it was learned at RN Golf Management inquired whether the 166-acre course had residential zoning. When the county said it did not, the ownership group filed an appeal. The zoning appeal will be heard on Jan. 30.

We're not at all taking a recruiting role. We are posting a notice that the group needs volunteers. Do you have a group that needs volunteers? We will happily post your info as well.

You know how many Golf Courses does Reston really need????? Our fees are going up every year and honestly if Reston was so concerned why did they not buy the land? I am all for more after all you choose "high density" when you made a choice to buy in Reston? I say let the land owners do whatever, build more homes or whatever. You guys wants to preserve it buy it - I am sure it will be open to all offers. I am sick of this!!!!! We have much larger issues to deal with then a golf course in a small community that already has one! What is the big deal...oh my view - then move, oh nature, go to one of the many parks and miles upon miles of path. OR don't like it sell! Easy really.

Scott, I have comment for you. Why don't you move Ballston or Rosslyn!!! You know the places with the high density you so favor, and leave us low density Restonians alone. Jim Myers

We're still wanting volunteers to canvass their own streets. Send email to info (@) rescuereston.com with your street name and number of units and we'll be in touch with materials. The golf course does not need someone to "buy" them and the permeable land is a very good neighbor for our lakes. Learn more at http://youtu.be/6mxV7w71J4c
