Alexandria Resident Jeffrey Engle Announces Run for 45th District House of Delegates Seat

Engle lists party affiliation as Independent, in campaign to unseat Democrat Del. Rob Krupicka.

City of Alexandria resident Jeffrey Engle has launched a campaign to run for the 45th District seat in Virginia's House of Delegates. The seat represents parts of Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County.

In his Statement of Organization filed with the State Board of Elections, Engle lists an address in Alexandria as his residence and his political party as "independent." Independent candidates wishing to run in the general election are required to submit their nomination petitions by June 11. Nomination petitions must contain the signatures of at least 125 qualified voters in the legislative district.

Engle launched a website to announce his run and collect campaign contributions. On the site, he says:

Are you tired of politicians being more concerned about their party winning than their constituents?

So are we.

Its time for a new breed of legislator who cares more about the impact of legislation, regulation, and expenditure on the people of the 45th District and the Commonwealth of Virginia than he does about party politics.

Jeffrey Engle is a proven leader whose sound judgment has continuously been demonstrated in the military and private sector.

He believes now is the time for effective governance, efficient expenditure, education for the future, and fulfilling the obligations made to our elderly, disabled, children and veterans.

Sound judgment. Proven leadership.

Although Engle lists his opinions on some issues, he is short on specifics.

Described as a "highly decorated combat veteran," on his campaign website, Engle reportedly works as a senior program analyst at Cubic Corporation in Alexandria, according to a business profile on LinkedIn. He earned a master's in Political Science from Virginia Tech, according to his campaign site.

The 45th District seat is currently held by Del. Rob Krupicka, a Democrat who served nine years on the Alexandria City Council prior to handily winning his delegate seat in a special election Sept. 4 after Del. David Englin, also a Democrat, resigned. Englin decided not to run again after admitting to not being faithful to his wife. Krupicka previously lost a primary race for the 30th District Senate seat.

Engle is getting the word out about his campaign via a Facebook page and Twitter account. He sent out his first tweet on Sunday: "Im up on Twitter for the campaign. Follow me and help bring some pragmatism to politics!"

On his site, he announced he would be in Old Town Alexandria Friday, gathering signatures from voters for his petition.
