A Virginia State Police trooper struck a pedestrian from Annandale on an I-495 ramp when she darted into the travel lane Saturday, police said.
The accident occurred at 2:41 a.m. Saturday when the trooper was taking the exit ramp from I-495 north to Braddock Road. The trooper swerved to avoid striking the woman, police said in a news release, but the side of the patrol car struck her.
The trooper stopped and administered aid to the woman until a rescue squad arrived on scene. The 25-year-old Annandale woman was transported to Fairfax INOVA Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
State police located a man nearby and are investigating the incident to determine what caused the woman to run into the travel lane, police said.
