Updated: Police Respond to Incident on Madison Street

Nearby residents heard gunfire in 1300 block near Braddock Road Metro station.

7:10 p.m. update — Gunshots were reported at 6 p.m. in the 1200 block of Madison Street, according to Alexandria Police Department spokesperson Jody Donaldson. 

Officers responded to the call, but no person or weapon was found.

Alexandria Police responded to reports of gunfire early Thursday evening near the 1300 block of Madison Street close to Braddock Road Metro station.

Police shut down the block around 6 p.m. A bevy of APD vehicles, including a canine unit, were on the scene.

No medical units were present around 6:20 p.m. It is believed that no one was harmed.

A message left with the Alexandria Police Department was not immediately returned.

Two Madison Street residents standing outside their respective residences said they heard something that sounded like gunfire.

One man, who asked that his name not be revealed, said he heard a familiar sound while he was inside his home.

“I know gunfire,” he said. “I haven’t heard that sound since combat. That was real. It was definitely an assault weapon.”

Two buses, one belonging to DASH and another to Metro, were parked in the 1300 block of Madison Street. Both drove away from the scene around 6:30 p.m. when the block was reopened to traffic.
