Police Respond to Single-Car Accident on Mt. Vernon Avenue

Chevy SUV collides with two lampposts near Del Ray Central.

Alexandria Police responded to an incident involving one vehicle around 9:50 p.m. Thursday in the 3500 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue near Del Ray Central Apartments and Warwick Village.

A black Chevy SUV collided with two lampposts, a small tree and small sign on Mt. Vernon Avenue before coming to a stop. The airbag deployed and the male driver exited the SUV under his own power, according to eyewitnesses. He did not receive medical attention at the scene.

“It was loud,” said Warwick Village resident Maria Manilla-Smith, who was in her home just across the street when the incident occurred. “It was obviously the sound of a car hitting something.”
