Police Investigating Duke Street Bank Robbery

Incident occurred Friday morning in the West End.

Alexandria police are investigating a robbery of a Virginia Commerce Bank branch on Duke Street that occurred Friday, Dec. 13.

At around 10:41 a.m., a man entered the bank located at 5140 Duke St. near Cameron Station and handed the teller a note that implied a weapon and demanded money, according to police.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 with a thin to average build.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black mask and construction attire, including a neon yellow jacket and a white hard hat with the word “JOY” on the front of the helmet.

Police also said there was a covered emblem on the front of the suspect’s jacket. He was also seen wearing khaki pants, black work boots and black gloves.

Police urge anyone with information about the robbery or who recognizes the suspect to call Detective Amy Santiago at 703-746-6289. Witnesses can remain anonymous.
